Last night, we started meeting with our High School students at a new location, the Kimbro building at Kyle Elementary. It amazes me how many students make this a priority in their lives despite the fact that we’ve never officially launched this ministry in the way that we dream. We had around 25 students and several adults who have a heart for students. We kicked it off with a really gross game where some of the guys ate vegetable beef baby food and then burp (into the mic I was going to be using). Zak talked about how they could make a positive difference in their families. I got to rock it out by leading worship with a makeshift band, Micah on bass, Rene on skins and some teenagers singing along (not a permanent solution, but fun for me 🙂 We want Connexion Students to be the place that teenagers in our area come together.
We’re going to be taking a group of 6th thru 12th graders to Hot Hearts on February 15-16 in Austin. The cost is $50 per student and since we have several kids who’ll have trouble coming up with the money, anyone can give scholarships 🙂 Sign-up by turning in a medical release form and a $25 deposit to our office. Youth are not the church of the future, they are the church of today! Our Celebration Services are a place where students can and should attend. They can relate to the music and the message. Our students also serve in many areas of ministry at TCC. In fact, they serve sometimes more willingly than some adults and we appreciate their service. Plus, they need to learn what it means to be the church while they’re still teenagers. We want to see students lives changed and lead them to passionately pursue Christ!
