After years of following the storied life of Carlos Whittaker, better known in the social media-sphere as loswhit, I was excited to jump into his new book Moment Maker: You Can Live Your Life or it Will Live You. Of all the people I know of, Carlos seems to have lived a charmed life. On his list of made moments, Carlos is a worship leader who had the opportunity to move across the country to serve on staff at Buckhead Church in Georgia, has worked with the Catalyst Leadership Conference, and has a couple of music projects under his belt. He appeared on the television show LA Ink and has had a couple of videos go viral. Carlos’ website, ragamuffinsoul.com, is one of the most popular and interesting blogs around. Now, he can add published author to his long list of made moments.

It makes you wonder, how can one person cover so much ground? In Moment Maker, Carlos reveals the secret behind his story. It turns out, it happens by intentionally making the most of every opportunity and experience and leveraging them for the benefit of others. It’s not just the big “bucket list” moments of life that matter either, but it’s the little moments that are made along the way, because as Carlos writes, “Life is too big to fit in a bucket.”

This book is chock-full of personal accounts looking into both his personal and professional life that reveal the good, bad, and sometimes ugly ways that moments are made. Some of them will have you rolling with laughter or wincing in sympathetic pain, while others may actually cause you to shed a few tears. But Carlos doesn’t just tell you his own story, he also tells the story of the Ultimate Moment Maker in each chapter, shining light on the life of Jesus from the Gospels. When you look at Jesus’ life, you see Him constantly making moments by serving nearly everyone He came into contact with, and He wants us to do the same.

Carlos waits until the last chapter to tie all the pieces together with some very practical ideas for anyone who decides to take him up on his challenge of becoming a moment maker. If this were the only chapter in the whole book, it would still be worth the read. As he writes:

God put us here to learn how to love each other and the learn how to love Him. That comes through living on purpose and with purpose. That comes from connecting, learning, loving, giving, losing, failing, and recovering. That comes from creating, receiving, and rescuing. All of that is Moment Making. – Carlos Whittaker

If you’re looking for some inspiration along with some practical application about how to make the most of the moments of your life, this is a must read. I can tell you, that this is one of those books that you won’t want to put down once you get started.
