I’ve been watching carefully to see at what point we needed to ramp up our ministry to students.

Over the course of this summer, we have parents of youth come up to us every week asking about our youth program. It’s clear that the time has come.

To this point, our student ministry has been very effective at reaching out to teens in our community. One of the challenges has been figuring out how to include many of the youth who’s parents attend the church on Sunday.

I’ve been praying and thinking about how we can do that. One thing I wanted to do was to have a simple inclusive event to introduce all of our students to one another. So next Wednesday, we’re going to do a float trip down the San Marcos River. We are really pumped about it. Tell every student you know about it.

As I said in the previous post, the consistency of our youth team has been unbelievable. Last week, we got the word that Bill, who’s been the point person of this team, is stepping aside. I went to the students and said, “come back next week, we’ll be having youth group.” Not really knowing who or how. But knowing that I was probably not the person they wanted to be their youth minister.

Last weekend, we were led to a guy who has served as a full-time youth pastor and church planter who has been looking for a way to come on board our team. He’s been a friend of mine for a couple of years and I have seen his heart and his creativity in action. So tonight, Jeff McFadden is going to step into the role of Student Ministry Intern. I can’t wait for everyone to meet him, his wife Kristine, and their 2 daughters Ezmy and Emma.
