If you’re looking to watch something different than the usual summer blockbuster fare, you should check out director Johnny Remo’s Like a Country Song this weekend. The movie, set in Nashville and filmed in some of the city’s noted venues, is the story of country singer Jake Reeson’s rise and fall and ultimate reconciliation, both with God and his family.

The lead character of Jake is played by for KING & COUNTRY’s Joel Smallbone, and includes both Billy Ray Cyrus and Larry Gatlin in the cast. You’ll see other familiar faces in the mix as well like Twilight‘s BooBoo Stewart. The country infused soundtrack added to the overall experience.

Whether or not you’re a fan of country music, this story is sure to tug at your heart strings as it touches on some very poignant themes that are common to each of us. It is about humility and forgiveness even through the pain that you may be going through. I was genuinely moved through this look at a son who reconnects with his dad after a life of separation.

As with any movie, its success is largely determined by how it performs on opening weekend. This one is showing in only one theater in the Austin area, Cinemark Hill Country Galleria in Bee Cave. We’re planning a Movie Night Out on Tuesday, June 24th at 7pm to watch it together. Tickets are available for that showing at the box office for only $5.75. Wear your Connection Church t-shirt and join us for some fun.
