I just put my blog’s reading level to the test and discovered something that probably won’t surprise you. So, am I smarter than a 5th grader? Not according to my blog rating.

Now, I’m just fine with that. My intention is never to impress anyone with how smart I may be. This verse from Paul resonates with me:

And my message and my
preaching were very plain. Rather than using clever and persuasive
speeches, I relied only on the power of the Holy Spirit.
(1 Cor. 2:4)

So even though I might have a few letters after my name, I want to make sure that the cookies are on the bottom shelf. That is, let everyone get to the good stuff. In fact, one of the marks of good speaking is clarity. I don’t want people to walk away and say, "He’s so smart I didn’t get anything out of it." Instead I want people to say, "I finally get it." Got it? Good!

By the way, my 10 year-old‘s rating is "Genius." What’s up with that?

  1. Cole, maybe it’s because she uses such terms as “up chuck water” and “blow chunks” those rate high, you should pepper your blog postings with those then re-run the readability test. 🙂 Hope the camping trip was successful!
