What went down on Mother’s Day at The Connection Church?

  • I had a few last minute media prep things to do on the laptops, so I stopped by the office and by the time I got to the PAC, it was pretty much already setup. Our setup team rocks! And I think they had a smaller crew than usual. I’m not saying they don’t need help, they do. They just work their tails off.
  • Because we were expecting a big crowd yesterday, we left the divider curtains down in the auditorium. So it was wide open yesterday. The problem was, we were actually down instead of up. For a lot of churches, Mother’s Day is a low day. But for us, it’s always been one of the biggest days of the year. I’m not sure what the difference was this year, except that we didn’t do much marketing for Mother’s Day and we didn’t start a new series like we always have.
  • The stage was filled yesterday for the 16 baby dedications we did. The crazy thing about that was we just dedicated 15 babies back in February (for a total of 31!). I thought we might have a few, but to have that many families this time was amazing. That means that that many people have either come on board during that time or have had new babies. And we’ve got several more new babies that are too young to have come yesterday. One thing about TCCers, we’re very fertile. We’ve got the biological growth down!
  • We usually give every mom a flower for Mother’s Day, but this year, we decided to honor one single mother with something that would really make a positive impact on her family. We gave her a $300 gift card for HEB so she can buy food or gas for the month.
  • We also gave out baby bottles for Central Texas Life Care that we will be filling over the next month to help women in crisis pregnancies. We’ll be collecting those bottles back on Father’s Day.
  • We showed the Team Hoyt video (that link’s not the actual one we showed, but you get the idea). I dare you to watch it without getting verklempt.
  • More people are taking advantage of our Spanish translation service. That’s good because I still can’t speak Spanish.
  • The PAC team is adding new stuff on a weekly basis. This week, we walked in and they added intelligent lighting! It was awesome! At one point during setup, I just sat in the auditorium and looked at how incredible the presentation is. You’ve got to see it to believe it!
  • Our band was back in full force, with Brady playing bass just 3 days after his new baby was born!
  • We had to be out of there by Noon yesterday because the Hays bands were going to be there all afternoon. And we made it with time to spare!
